I still have my "I Like Mike" button for Governor Mike Foster's 1995 gubernatorial campaign in Louisiana. In 1996, Gov. Foster took a chance on a young, aspirational whiz kid named Bobby Jindal by giving him the reins of the state's Department of Health and Hospitals. He brought the state Medicaid program from bankruptcy to three years of surpluses totaling $220 million. That whiz kid is now Governor of the great state of Louisiana, American's youngest governor at age 36. Jindal is frequently mentioned as a VP for McCain's ticket and is considered a rising star in the GOP. But without Mike Foster... who knows if Jindal would have risen as quickly as he has so far?
